Why We Built Underleau
Modern writing tools have lost their way. They've become bloated, distraction-heavy dashboards more concerned with locking you into subscriptions than helping you find your voice. We believe writers deserve better.
Underleau was born from a simple idea: your words should belong to you. Not to a proprietary database. Not to a cloud service that might disappear tomorrow. But to you—stored locally on your own machine.
Core Principles
Offline First
Your documents are stored locally on your device first, ensuring privacy and offline access. Write in the woods, on a plane, or in the quiet of a dead zone. Your work stays local by default, but can be protected by the cloud when you choose.
Privacy by Design
We don't track your writing habits or store your documents on our servers unless you explicitly choose to sync. Your content never touches our infrastructure unless you want it to.
Human First, AI Second
AI should be a sounding board—a research assistant—but it should never be the author. If it writes the story for you, it isn't your story. We refuse to build features that automate the soul out of writing.
